ENZYME REPLACEMENT THERAPY

HAS BEGUN FOR CHRISTIAN

Christian started the ERT on January 4, 2007. The first infusion went very well. He tolerated the medication and was happy and alert. After the 3^rd and 4^th infusion we started to get notes back from his Teacher at school about how much happier and more interactive Christian was at school. “ He used to laugh once a week now he is singing and laughing daily at school.” He is more attentive and participates more in class activities. We were overjoyed to hear this good news. Today, Feb 1^st, Christian had his 5^th infusion and we had some trouble. He had an allergic reaction to the Enzyme which is not uncommon around this time of the treatment. We treated him with Benadryl but once the hives had gone down and we tried to re-start the IV, the hives re-appeared and we had to stop treatment for the day. The next time we will pre-medicate him with several drugs to help prevent this from happening. This pre-treatment has been very successful with other children having similar reactions to the Enzyme. We are very hopeful Christian will respond to the pre-treatment and continue to show improvement with the ERT. This is such a blessing for our child and our family. We thank God everyday for the gift these Doctors and Researchers have given to all Hunters children. This means that the children suffering now will find some relief from the pain of this terrible disease. They will not continue to degenerate physically and that is a miracle. The children newly diagnosed now have the hope that their physical degeneration can be stopped and they now have the gift of time as the researchers work on getting the Enzyme into the brain.
